Students in the Austin Independent School District received gifts and support during the holiday season through events at Dobie Middle School and Webb Middle School.

Dobie Middle School, working with Austin Voices for Education and Youth, held its annual “Gift of Giving Day” on Friday. Students were able to choose gifts for themselves and up to two siblings. Around 1,400 gifts were donated by sponsors including Austin Chinese Church, Angel Martinez BMX Community, Toys for Tots, and Austin Voices.

“We’re pleased and thankful Dobie Middle School is participating and to be given this opportunity,” said Dobie Middle School Principal Michael Walker. “We’re thankful as a campus to receive this kind of support from the community.”

Webb Middle School hosted its second annual Jingle-Bell Bash on Thursday. The event was sponsored by Dell Children’s Health Plan and Austin Voices. Nearly 900 toys were distributed, with each family receiving three toys. The event was open to the community.

Families attending the Jingle-Bell Bash also received gift cards, car seats, flu shots, blankets, hot cocoa, jackets, and snacks. Activities in literacy, math, and science were available for families to engage in with their children.

Organizers thanked volunteers and sponsors for helping provide a positive holiday experience for students across Austin ISD.
