Austin Independent School District announced on May 6 that it is seeking community volunteers to help with upcoming campus transitions as part of its consolidation process.
The district said these volunteer efforts are intended to make the transition smoother for students and families as schools prepare for changes. Volunteers will assist staff by packing classroom supplies, organizing library books, and documenting items throughout the campuses.
Opportunities are available at several locations, including Oak Springs Elementary School, Bedichek Middle School, Martin Middle School, Widen Elementary School, Sunset Valley Elementary School, Becker Elementary School, and Blackshear Elementary School. Interested community members can find specific dates and details about volunteer opportunities at these sites through information provided by the district.
The Austin Independent School District educates more than 72,000 students across 116 diverse school communities—including elementary, middle, high school, early college programs, academies, magnet schools and alternative campuses—while employing over 5,000 classroom teachers in a multicultural environment where more than 100 languages are spoken by students. The district also maintains a graduation rate of 93.3 percent and exceeds state averages on SAT and ACT scores; it provides instruction in over 100 languages with programs offered in eleven languages other than English—all according to the official website.
According to the official website, Austin ISD focuses on partnering with families and the community to equip students with knowledge and skills needed for success in college, career and life.
The district continues to encourage interested individuals to participate in supporting local schools during this period of change.
