Last week, Austin Independent School District (Austin ISD) released its Draft Consolidation & Boundary Plan. The plan includes proposed boundary changes affecting 98% of schools, the closure of 13 school buildings, the relocation of one program to a new campus, and the repurposing of six schools for programming without a designated school zone.

The board of trustees has reviewed the draft plan and listened to over an hour of public comments regarding the proposals. Community feedback is now being sought to help identify potential gaps or transition considerations before the plan is finalized and presented for approval at the Board of Trustees meeting on November 20.

Community members are invited to participate in four Q&A sessions scheduled throughout October and November. Two virtual sessions will focus on different geographic areas—South Austin on October 14 and North Austin on October 16. A third virtual session covering districtwide topics will take place on October 27. An in-person districtwide session is planned for November 8 at Delco Activity Center.

Registration for each virtual meeting is limited to 1,000 participants. Those unable to attend can submit comments online by October 28. Staff are currently reviewing all submissions and compiling common themes and frequently asked questions.

“We value your feedback and encourage you to thoughtfully consider the plan in full and add your voice to the process. The draft is a starting point, and we will continue to engage with our community and refine the plan over the coming weeks as we move toward the November 20 board vote,” said Austin ISD representatives.

The final version of the consolidation plan will be submitted for approval at the upcoming board meeting.
