The Austin ISD is seeking input from the community as they embark on the redesign of the Metz Elementary School outdoor space. This initiative comes after receiving a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support outdoor learning.

In a statement, the school district expressed their commitment to creating a space that benefits the entire Austin ISD community. The new Metz Outdoor Wonder and Learning Center aims to cultivate outdoor learning experiences, with a focus on student field trips and professional development for teachers. The space will also be open to the public outside of school hours.

“We’re reimagining the space to provide a unique outdoor learning environment that will enhance the educational experience for our students and teachers,” said a spokesperson for the Austin ISD.

Since its closure as a school campus, Metz Elementary has continued to serve as a valuable community resource, housing various departments that support campuses within the Austin ISD. The Metz OWL Center project is currently in the early planning stages, with the goal of welcoming students and teachers to the new space by the 2025-26 school year.

Community members are encouraged to share their feedback and suggestions for the redesign by completing a confidential survey. The input gathered will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Metz Outdoor Wonder and Learning Center.

The transformation of the outdoor space at Metz Elementary represents a significant opportunity for the Austin ISD to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that extends beyond the traditional classroom setting.
