Austin Independent School District (Austin ISD) is inviting community members to apply for membership on its Innovation District Advisory Council (IDAC). The council plays a role in shaping the district’s approach to education under Texas’ District of Innovation designation.

House Bill 1842, Section 4, which was passed during the 84th Texas Legislative Session, allows public school districts in Texas to become Districts of Innovation. This status gives districts more flexibility to adjust or be exempt from certain state requirements, enabling them to better address student needs and personalize learning at the local level.

Interested applicants must submit their applications by noon on Thursday, September 25. The application process requires candidates to fill out the standard form and select “Other” when asked about preferred advisory bodies, then write in IDAC. Selected individuals will receive an invitation by 5 p.m. on September 26 for a virtual meeting scheduled at 5 p.m. on September 29.

The upcoming IDAC meeting will focus on considering amendments to the current District of Innovation Plan. These proposed changes are related to new laws that were enacted during the most recent legislative session.
