Austin Independent School District’s Special Education Department has announced that it currently has no overdue evaluations, a change from the 1,588 late evaluations reported in the 2022–23 school year. The district reached full compliance with state performance indicators even as referrals rose to 7,196 in 2024.
The department credited its progress to several changes, including adopting an employment-based staffing model, scheduling evaluations proactively, and using automated tracking reports.
Looking ahead, the district plans to continue meeting compliance standards through workload audits, administrator training, and ongoing collaboration with the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
According to the district: “The district achieved 100% compliance with state performance indicators despite rising demand, with referrals peaking at 7,196 in 2024.”
