Austin ISD podcast shares updates on enrollment, special education milestone

This week’s Austin Independent School District (AISD) podcast highlights several updates for families and the community. The episode covers a historic milestone for the district regarding special education services.

The podcast provides information about the second round of general enrollment, including details on an in-person enrollment clinic scheduled for February 23. Families can also learn about navigating the transfer process.

Looking ahead, AISD will retake ownership of Mendez Middle School beginning with the 2026-27 school year. Community members are invited to participate in discussions about the school’s future at an event on February 24.

Additionally, AISD will hold an event on February 27 to honor more than 200 students, staff, and community leaders under the theme “Faces of Austin ISD.”

February 16-20 marks School Resource Officers Appreciation Week. The district extends thanks to its school resource officers for their commitment to campus safety.

AISD serves over 72,000 students and employs more than 5,000 classroom teachers across its 116 diverse school communities, which include elementary, middle, high schools as well as early college, academy, magnet, alternative and community schools (official website). The district supports a multicultural environment where over 100 languages are spoken by students and offers instruction in more than 100 languages along with programs in 11 languages other than English (official website). AISD maintains a graduation rate of 93.3 percent and surpasses state averages on SAT and ACT scores (official website).
