The Austin Independent School District’s IT Department is promoting online safety during Cybersecurity Awareness Month by launching a poster and video contest for students and staff. The initiative, themed “Be Internet Awesome,” encourages participants to demonstrate how they protect personal information while using the internet.

The district highlights the importance of cybersecurity, stating that being cautious online can help prevent individuals and families from becoming targets of cyber attacks. Protecting computer systems, networks, and sensitive information from unauthorized access is emphasized as a key aspect of staying safe.

Students and staff are invited to submit creative entries using Canva, traditional paper posters, or short videos lasting two minutes or less. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Friday, November 7. Winners will receive prizes.

Additional cybersecurity resources, including games and videos, are available through the district’s new platform to further support families and students in learning about online safety.

“Cybersecurity Awareness Month reminds everyone that there are simple, effective ways to  and protect your personal data,” the district stated.

“Being mindful while online helps you avoid being a target! This includes protecting computer systems, networks and sensitive information from unauthorized access that can put you or your family at risk from cyber attacks,” the district added.
