Austin ISD has announced the launch of the #BeTheChange Attendance Campaign in collaboration with SaulPaul, aimed at encouraging all students to promote regular school attendance among their peers.

According to the E3 Alliance data, chronic absence rates in all grades across Central Texas have seen a significant increase of at least 8% since 2019. This data also reveals that students from low-income households are twice as likely to be chronically absent compared to their peers from higher-income backgrounds.

Recognizing the importance of attending school every day, Austin ISD is taking proactive steps to address this issue and ensure that students have the opportunity to thrive socially and academically. The campaign emphasizes the positive effect that regular school attendance has on students’ social development and academic success.

To get involved in the #BeTheChange Attendance Campaign, students are encouraged to perform a random act of kindness each day at their school, starting from Thursday, February 8. In addition, there will be a student poster and slogan contest, as well as a campus video contest. Students can connect with their campus leadership to learn more about how to participate.

SaulPaul, the renowned musician and motivational speaker, is excited to partner with Austin ISD for this campaign. He believes that students have the power to make a difference and inspire their peers to attend school every day. In a statement, SaulPaul expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I am honored to be part of the #BeTheChange Attendance Campaign and encourage all students to take action and be the change they want to see in their schools.”

Austin ISD is committed to providing resources and support to ensure that every student has equal access to education. By addressing chronic absenteeism, the district aims to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
