Austin Independent School District announced on March 27 a series of updates, including new partnerships to improve academic performance at several middle schools, changes to school calendars, and reminders about important enrollment deadlines.

The announcement is relevant for families and staff as it outlines efforts to support student achievement through expanded learning opportunities and collaborations. The district also provided information about athletic programs and upcoming events that may affect schedules across its campuses.

According to the district’s update, a partnership has been established with TCIS aimed at enhancing academic outcomes and accountability at Burnet, Dobie, and Webb middle schools by drawing on TCIS’s experience in other Texas districts. The district also detailed the implementation of an alternative calendar at nine campuses. This state-funded program will provide students with additional time to master essential concepts through 18 optional summer days and seven “ADSY Saturdays” throughout the year.

Additional highlights include reminders about general K-12 enrollment periods and the Round 2 transfer application deadline set for April 10. For families interested in pre-kindergarten programs, virtual information sessions are scheduled, with the next meeting planned for March 30. The district also announced the start of a Girls Flag Football League in partnership with the Dallas Cowboys as well as recognition of four staff members through awards. Furthermore, March 31 will be observed as a holiday when all schools and offices will be closed.

The Austin Independent School District educates more than 72,000 students across its network of 116 diverse school communities—including elementary, middle, high school, early college programs, academies, magnet schools and alternative settings—according to its official website. Over 5,000 classroom teachers serve these students within a multicultural environment where more than 100 languages are spoken; instruction is provided in over ten languages beyond English according to the official website.

The district maintains a graduation rate of over ninety-three percent while exceeding state averages on standardized tests such as SATs and ACTs according to the official website. Its focus remains on partnering with families and community members so that students gain knowledge necessary for success after graduation according to the official website.
