Several events and initiatives are scheduled throughout September at Austin Independent School District (Austin ISD), offering opportunities for community engagement and support for students and staff.

An art exhibit featuring work by educators and staff from across the district is open through September 26 at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center. The public is also invited to an Artist’s Reception on September 26 from 6 to 9 p.m., providing a chance to meet educators and celebrate their contributions.

Austin ISD will hold a districtwide family workshop titled “How are schools funded in Texas?” This session will address how factors such as attendance, Title I services, and ongoing family engagement affect school funding and student success. The workshop takes place on Saturday, September 13, from 10 to 11 a.m. at LBJ Early College High School, located at 7309 Lazy Creek Dr., Austin.

Music events this month include the annual high school marching band showcase on September 16 at Toney Burger Stadium at 7 p.m. Additionally, the Middle School and High School All-City Orchestra will perform on September 25 at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center, also beginning at 7 p.m.

A day of performances, free dance classes, live music, and a flash mob is set for Saturday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center. The flash mob is scheduled for 1 p.m., with leaders wearing pink hats to guide participants.

On September 27, there will be a grand opening and open house for a new cultural center at the former Brooke Elementary School campus (3100 E. 4th St., Austin). The event honors Texas’ American Indian Heritage Day and runs from noon to 2 p.m.

September is also Teaching Assistant, Custodians and Groundskeeping Appreciation Week within Austin ISD. Community members are encouraged to share stories about staff members through a form available on the district’s website.
