The Austin Independent School District announced on May 27 that it will officially move forward with increasing the number of instructional days, as part of a strategic initiative to boost instructional time and improve student achievement. The announcement was made in the district’s latest news update, which also featured stories about graduating seniors, upcoming milestones, and resources for families.
The episode introduced Northeast Early College High School seniors and twin brothers Jose Ignacio and Jose Emilio Araujo Rodriguez, who shared their experiences of perseverance as they prepare to graduate. The district also provided information about the graduation schedule beginning May 27 and celebrated recent graduates of the UpClose program, a leadership initiative for families and community members.
Families were informed about access to free healthy meals for students at more than 30 school sites throughout the summer. Additionally, early registration for the 2026-27 school year was encouraged to help finalize staffing, transportation, and meal planning across campuses.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, practical strategies were offered for managing stress and maintaining wellbeing as students transition into summer break. The district emphasized its commitment to supporting students’ academic success through these initiatives.
