Austin Independent School District (Austin ISD) has announced several events and opportunities for students, families, and the community throughout October.

The district is inviting community members to participate in discussions ahead of a Board of Trustees vote scheduled for November 20. Community feedback is being collected at five different sessions.

Navarro Early College High School’s Animal Science Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program will host a pet clinic. The event is open to the public, offering annual vaccinations and flea and tick medications for pets. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Lanier FFA at Navarro. No appointments are required. The clinic will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21 at the Navarro ECHS Ag Building, located at 1111 Fairfield Dr., Austin.

High school juniors and seniors in Austin ISD will have an opportunity to meet with representatives from colleges, career organizations, and the military at an upcoming fair featuring more than 100 institutions. The event is set for Thursday, October 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Delco Activity Center, 4601 Pecan Brook Dr., Austin.

Parents and caregivers are invited to attend a session focused on supporting students as they prepare for employment after graduation. Representatives from Goodwill, Texas Workforce, and Austin ISD Job Coaches will provide information about job training programs and employment opportunities. This event will be held on Saturday, October 25 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at LBJ Early College High School, located at 7309 Lazy Creek Dr., Austin.

In partnership with Workforce Solutions’ Central Texas Healthcare Partnership, Austin ISD’s team is organizing a healthcare careers event highlighting in-demand jobs in the sector. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 25 at Burger Activity Center, located at 3200 Jones Rd., Austin.

The district’s Special Education Dyslexia Team is hosting a screening of “The Truth About Reading,” an 80-minute documentary that examines illiteracy in America. The screening is scheduled for Monday, October 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders (2309 Panther Trail, Austin).
