Austin FC goalie Brad Stuver is one of three finalists for the MLS WORKS Humanitarian of the Year Award.

According to KXAN, Stuver was nominated for helping launch the Austin Laundry Project, which helps low-income families use local laundromats free of charge.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler is pulling for Stuver to be accorded the accolade.

“Congratulations to @brad_stuver, named one of three finalists for the MLS WORKS Humanitarian of the Year award,” Adler tweeted.

Joining Stuver as nominees for the award are Julián Araujo of LA Galaxy and Toronto FC’s Justin Morrow, KXAN reported.

The Ohio-born Stuver, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 181 pounds, started in 33 games for Austin FC, the MLS’s newest franchise.

He logged nearly 3,000 minutes on the pitch during the team’s inaugural season, according to MLS.com.

The website also reported that Stuver registered a 72% save rate with 136 goals saved for Austin FC in 2021.

Before coming to Texas’s state capital, Stuver has played for New York City FC, the Columbus Crew and the defunct Los Angeles-based Chivas USA.

Austin FC, which went 9-4-21 in its debut season, joined fellow Texas MLS franchises Houston Dynamo FC and FC Dallas at the bottom of the conference standings.

The Austin Laundry Project and Stuver, a nine-year MLS veteran, were honored at the team’s charitable foundation’s inaugural “Night in Verde.”

Stuver told KVUE that his favorite part about working with the Austin Laundry Project is meeting the people he’s helping.

“The best part about the Laundry Project is talking to them on a human level,” he told the station. “Just learning about their lives and talking about their kids.”

Stuver added that he learned about Austin’s best places to eat through the Laundry Project.

MLS said it’ll announce the winner in the coming weeks, according to KXAN.
