Austin FC has issued the following press release:

Austin FC announced this Wednesday that the Club has acquired Ecuadorian striker Washington Corozo on a six-month loan from Peruvian club Sporting Cristal. The deal includes a transfer option. Corozo, 23, spent the 2021-2022 season with Liga MX’s Pumas UNAM, where he played in both games of the 2022 Concacaf Champions League final.

“Austin FC is an ambitious Club, in a great city, with incredible fans,” said Corozo. “I want to thank my agent, and Claudio Reyna and Josh Wolff for this opportunity and I look forward to being part of the Club. I will give everything I have for the Club and I can’t wait to be under the light of Q2 Stadium.”

While with Pumas, Corozo scored eight (8) goals in 42 games in all competitions, including eight (8) games in the Concacaf Champions League. He made his debut for the Ecuador men’s team on September 2, 2021 against Paraguay, in a 2-0 win at home to the Tri in qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Corozo began his professional career with Independiente del Valle in Ecuador, and helped the team win the Copa Sudamericana in 2019. He transferred to Sporting Cristal before the 2020 season, and scored eight (8) goals in 28 matches as Cristal won the title. of the Peruvian League 1 that year.
