Austin Energy is encouraging its customers to consider electric bikes, also known as E-Bikes or E-Rides, as an eco-friendly transportation option. The utility company has a rebate program in place to make these vehicles more accessible.

E-Bikes are touted as an excellent alternative to traditional vehicles, providing a convenient mode of transport for short to medium distances while simultaneously reducing the user’s carbon footprint.

Austin Energy provides eligible individual customers with rebates for the purchase of qualifying E-Bikes, scooters, mopeds, or any other electric two or three-wheel vehicle. In 2023, the rebates increased up to $600 per individual E-Ride vehicle purchase for applications submitted on or after January 1, 2023. This is applicable as long as the purchase was completed within the last 60 days. Since 2007, Austin Energy has provided more than 4,000 E-bike rebates.

To qualify for the rebate, participants must be an Austin Energy customer and purchase an eligible E-Ride. They must then submit a rebate application. Rebate amounts will vary and funding is limited. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Starting in 2023, customers enrolled in the Customer Assistance Program (CAP) became newly eligible for a rebate of up to $1,300 per individual E-Ride vehicle purchase for applications submitted on or after January 1, 2023. Again this applies if the purchase was completed within the last 60 days.

Austin Energy also offers eligible businesses and organizations rebates for E-Ride vehicle fleets numbering between five and twenty-five vehicles. In 2023, these rebates increased up to $800 per E-Ride vehicle fleet purchase for applications submitted on or after January 1, 2023 – again provided that the purchase was completed within the last sixty days.
