A memorial will be held for a medal-winning California cyclist who died in Austin, according to a report from Austin ABC affiliate KVUE

Twenty-five-year-old Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson was visiting Texas to compete in a race when she was found dead inside a residence on the east side of the state capital, plunging the cycling world into shock and sorrow.

KVUE reported that the Austin cycling community will host the memorial at Republic Square Park on May 29 from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

According to the station, organizers said that the memorial is to honor the up-and-coming gravel and mountain cyclist.

“This will be a gathering to acknowledge the tragedy of the loss and condemn the violence that led to this loss,” they said, per KVUE.

The station reported that following the memorial, there will be a ride to Deep Eddy, the place where Wilson was last seen alive before she died earlier this month.

Austin FOX affiliate KTBC reported that Wilson was fatally shot at the home on Maple Avenue near East 17th Street.

Authorities found Wilson with multiple gunshot wounds, to which she succumbed despite first responders’ efforts to revive her, according to KTBC.

Wilson had just won the Belgian Waffle Ride in California and was expected to finish first at the Gravel Locos race in Hico that was held on May 14.

KVUE reported that authorities are searching for 35-year-old local cyclist, Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, who fled after being charged with murder.

Police have learned that Wilson previously dated a man with whom the suspect was involved, according to the station.

Austin professional cyclist Colin Strickland issued a statement in response to Wilson’s passing, KVUE reported.

“As a point of clarification to facts previously reported, Moriah Wilson and I had a brief romantic relationship from late October-early November 2021 that spanned a week or so while Wilson was visiting Austin,” Strickland said. “At the time, she and I had both recently ended relationships. She returned to her home in California and about a month later, Katlin Armstrong and I reconciled and resumed our relationship.”

Armstrong is believed to be operating a black Jeep Cherokee with license plate LDZ5608, per KVUE.

Anyone who has seen Armstrong or has any information that could be beneficial to the case is asked to contact the U.S. Marshals at (800) 336-0102, the station reported.
