Austin-Bergstrom reports mixed results in August passenger and cargo traffic

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport reported a decrease in passenger traffic for August 2024, with a total of 1,725,545 passengers. This figure represents a decline of 2.89% compared to the same month last year. Enplanements for the month were down by 3.15%, totaling 842,310.

In terms of airline performance, Southwest Airlines saw a slight increase of 0.4% in passenger numbers, while Delta Air Lines experienced significant growth with an increase of 15.2%. American Airlines and Alaska Airlines faced declines of 15% and 14.8%, respectively. Frontier Airlines showed remarkable growth with a rise of 202.6%, whereas Spirit Airlines experienced a sharp decline of 65.2%.

Cargo operations at the airport saw positive growth in August 2024, with air cargo totaling 26,349,317 lbs., marking an increase of 13.29% from August last year. International air cargo rose by an impressive 75.35%. Federal Express and United Parcel Services both recorded increases in their cargo operations.

The first eight months of the year showed slight overall growth in passenger activity compared to the previous year, up by just 0.14%. Cargo operations also increased during this period.

General aviation operations decreased both for August and over the January to August period compared to last year.
