Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is gearing up for a busy October as the Austin City Limits Music Festival returns. The event is expected to draw large crowds, with more than 35,000 departing passengers anticipated on specific days across two weekends.

To manage the increased passenger volume, AUS advises travelers to arrive early and plan ahead. “Prepare for arrival: Timing, parking, and terminal access,” suggests AUS. Passengers are encouraged to arrive at least 2.5 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. They should also allow extra time for activities such as checking luggage or returning rental cars before reaching TSA security lines.

Travelers can visit ABIAParking.com to reserve parking spaces in advance, although on-site parking is not expected to sell out. Shuttle services are available but may experience delays due to festival traffic.

AUS recommends using mobile boarding passes and self-service kiosks to streamline check-in processes. “Expect busy airline ticket counters,” especially for airlines offering free or discounted checked luggage.

The airport has three security checkpoints that open at 3 a.m., with TSA PreCheck and Clear lanes available at Checkpoint 2 West. Recent changes mean passengers no longer need to remove shoes during screening.

For those needing assistance, ADA-compliant shuttles and wheelchair support are available. The TSA Cares program offers additional help during security screenings if booked in advance.

Inside the Barbara Jordan Terminal, travelers can enjoy local food, art installations, and live music performances. An interactive map helps locate amenities within the terminal.

Construction projects are ongoing throughout the airport campus. Passengers may encounter construction walls and scaffolding but can stay informed by visiting AustinTexas.gov/AUSConstructionUpdates.

AUS representatives will be available on-site on Wednesday, Oct. 1, to provide travel tips to local media.
