Austin-Bergstrom International Airport sees modest passenger growth in January

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) reported a 2.77% increase in passenger traffic for January 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, with a total of 1,435,466 passengers. The number of enplanements rose by 3.05%, reaching 703,747.

Among airlines, Southwest Airlines carried the most passengers at AUS with 562,762 travelers, which represented a slight decrease of 0.3%. Delta Air Lines saw a significant increase of 28.8% to reach 273,062 passengers. American Airlines experienced a decline of 19.5%, transporting 211,460 passengers. United Airlines increased its passenger count by 1.3% to total 198,397.

Other carriers had varied results: Alaska Airlines was down by 6.9% with 47,284 passengers; Frontier Airlines nearly doubled its numbers with an increase of 91%, totaling 41,510; Spirit Airlines grew by over half at 50.8% with a total of 30,850; and JetBlue Airways more than doubled its figures with an increase of 120.3%, serving 12,511 passengers.

International carriers also showed changes: British Airways saw an increase of 9.4% to reach 15,408 passengers; Aeromexico rose by almost five percent to carry 8,445; KLM Royal Dutch Airlines went up by over a quarter at a rate of 26.7% for a total of 5,780; Air Canada grew by over seven percent to serve nearly six thousand travelers.

For air cargo operations in January, the airport handled a total volume of just over nineteen million pounds (19,100,288 lbs.), marking a decrease of just over six percent from January last year. International air cargo increased slightly by more than two percent (1,457,487 lbs.). Among cargo carriers: Air Transport International moved about the same volume as last year at just under eight million pounds but dropped slightly by less than one percent; Federal Express saw an eleven and a half percent decrease to carry about three point three million pounds; United Parcel Services increased its share by almost four percent; Sun Country Airlines’ cargo jumped more than twenty-five percent.

Mail services recorded no transfers for the month while belly freight was down eighteen percent at just over two million pounds.

Aircraft operations reflected growth as well: general aviation activities totaled more than three thousand flights (up about one and a half percent), while combined operations including commercial and military flights reached nearly twenty thousand—an increase exceeding five percent.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is owned and operated by the City of Austin Department of Aviation and provides nonstop flights across the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Europe (official website).
