The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is gearing up for the summer travel season with a host of enhancements aimed at improving passenger comfort and experience. Among these improvements are the installation of large fans in the terminal to help combat the summer heat, along with new nonstop services and upgraded air conditioning systems.

In light of the expected surge in passenger traffic, which reached a record 2,040,981 in one month last summer, AUS officials are advising travelers to arrive early. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint – Arrive Early! Breeze through security – Pack Properly!” they suggest.

From May 8 onwards, changes will be implemented at TSA Checkpoints: Checkpoint 3 has been closed since February 2024 due to ongoing construction on the West Infill project (estimated completion in 2026). Updates on construction activities can be found on the Journey With AUS Construction page.

Travelers unsure about what items are permissible in carry-on and checked luggage can refer to TSA.gov for guidance. The website features a searchable list titled ‘What Can I Bring?’ that provides information on packing rules.

Parking arrangements at AUS are also being streamlined. Real-time availability of parking options can be checked at ABIAParking.com. However, from May 19th until August 10, 2024, reservations for parking spaces in the Red Garage, Blue Garage, and Economy Parking will be temporarily suspended to ensure availability during peak summer travel.

Once past security checks, passengers can enjoy local cuisine from various restaurants and live music performances throughout the terminal. For those interested in retail or art therapy, there are numerous options available as indicated by step-by-step directions on the AUS digital wayfinding map at airportmaps.flyaustin.com.

With around 30 shows scheduled per week, AUS is proud to showcase music from talented Austin artists across its eight stages. Detailed schedules can be found on the ‘Live Music in the Air at AUS’ program webpage.

In anticipation of peak travel periods, AUS will deploy additional Department of Aviation staff to assist with line management, TSA support, and passenger navigation. The airport is committed to ensuring a pleasant and safe experience for all passengers and encourages everyone to exercise patience, kindness, and consideration towards fellow travelers and AUS employees.
