The City of Austin has initiated a nationwide search for its next Chief of Police, with the assistance of Mosaic Public Partners, a recruiting firm. This decision comes after the appointment of City Manager T.C. Broadnax on May 6, who has prioritized the hiring of a permanent police chief.

Broadnax emphasized the importance of public safety in his statement: “Public safety is of paramount importance, not just to me and the Mayor and City Council, but to Austin as a whole. My commitment to this community is to find the absolute best candidate for this critical role,” he said. “I want to ensure that I bring forward someone who will build trust and foster a culture of transparency and accountability.”

The position was officially opened on Wednesday, May 15, and will remain open until June 10. As part of their process, Mosaic Public Partners will be collecting public input through a survey that will be released next week and will stay open until the job posting closes.

Following the closing date for applications, several interview panels are scheduled to meet which include community members, law enforcement personnel, and city leadership. A community event where finalists can meet and greet with residents is also planned.

Updates regarding the survey and community event will be provided by the city as they become available.
