The Barbara Jordan Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport was filled with local music on September 23, marking the 20th anniversary of HAAM Day. The event featured five artists performing for travelers throughout the day as part of the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians’ (HAAM) annual celebration. HAAM Day is recognized as the world’s largest one-day, all-local music festival, showcasing over 250 performances by more than 300 musicians across 105 venues in Austin within a single day.
Wook Wizard started the festivities at Vino Volo with a solo performance using various instruments, creating a mystical atmosphere for passengers. Later, Manny “Smiley” Velazquez entertained at Annie’s with vintage country songs from his album “Keep Smiling,” emphasizing HAAM’s importance to his personal life and family health.
Bonnie Whitmore and friends performed bluesy tunes at the Austin City Market stage, drawing travelers with their energetic covers and tracks from her album “Last Will and Testament.” Ruby Dice followed in the afternoon at Tacodeli with her psychedelic country style, engaging audiences of all ages.
The day’s events concluded with Jennifer Foster and the Audacity on the Asleep at the Wheel main stage. Their soulful performance resonated with attendees, providing a fitting end to a day dedicated to supporting local musicians.
Though HAAM Day has ended, donations are still encouraged to support Austin’s music community by providing affordable healthcare services to musicians. Contributions can be made through their website: https://www.myhaam.org/haam-day/
