Texas A&M University has issued the following press release:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A LendingTree study found Austin was the fourth most popular metro for millennial homebuyers in 2021.

In the Texas capital, 60.46 percent of mortgages offered through LendingTree were offered to millennials. The average age of those buyers was 32.76.

The typical millennial buyer in Austin had a credit score of 726 and paid a $51,349 down payment.

According to LendingTree, millennials make up the largest group of homebuyers in the U.S., ahead of older Gen Xers and baby boomers.

The top three metros for millennial buyers last year were Denver, Seattle, and Boston. The least popular metros were Miami; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Tampa, Fla.

To determine the rankings, LendingTree analyzed mortgage offers given to millennial borrows in the nation’s largest 50 metros in 2021. The age range was determined by the Pew Research Center, which defines millennials as anyone born from 1981 through 1996.
