Operations at the South Terminal of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) will end on March 31, 2026. Starting April 1, Allegiant and Frontier flights will operate from the Barbara Jordan Terminal instead. The airport is closing the South Terminal to make way for the New Midfield Taxiways Project, which is part of a larger expansion plan called Journey With AUS.

The New Midfield Taxiways are considered essential for future airport developments, including a new Concourse B and a connecting tunnel. These projects aim to expand gate capacity and improve connections across the airfield. According to airport officials, this move is intended to support continued growth in Central Texas.

Passengers traveling with Allegiant or Frontier after April 1 should go directly to the Barbara Jordan Terminal for check-in, security screening, and departure. Travelers are advised to confirm their terminal before arriving if their travel dates are close to the transition period.

For those who park at the South Terminal before March 31 but return after April 1, shuttle service between terminals will continue until all vehicles have been removed from South Terminal parking lots. Updated parking information will be provided as the closure date approaches.

“The South Terminal has served millions of travelers and played an important role in AUS’s growth,” stated airport representatives. “As we prepare to close this chapter, we do so with gratitude and with excitement for what’s ahead.”

Removing the terminal will allow completion of infrastructure improvements like Concourse B and a tunnel designed to enhance long-term service for travelers in Austin.

Additional updates about parking guidance and other details will be available on the city’s website as March 31 approaches.

The City of Austin manages a $5.9 billion budget and employs over 16,000 staff members according to its official website.
