The Austin Independent School District’s (AISD) all-time career rushing record now has a new owner in Lyndon Baines Johnson Early College High School’s (LBJ) Sedrick Alexander, Austin NBC affiliate KXAN reported

Per the station, the senior running back (RB) for the Jaguars claimed the record on Thursday in a game against the Austin Crockett Cougars when he scampered 17 yards for a touchdown. LBJ easily won the contest 49-0.

KXAN reported that Alexander, a Vanderbilt pledge, succeeded former Austin Reagan (now Northeast Early College High School) rusher Mulbah Car, who previously held the mark with 4,836 yards churned from 2013 to 2016.

Alexander commemorated the milestone by handing the ball to his mother in the stands, according to the report.

“It’s a blessing to have those people who love you around you, and the community and the team I call my brothers, it just feels so good to do this,” he said, KXAN reported.

The feat occurred just a week after Alexander claimed another AISD gridiron record for himself.

KXAN reported that the rusher shattered the district’s rushing touchdowns record with 67 – and in regards to the rushing mark – needed 43 entering the Crockett game.

Austin Journal reported in August that Alexander as a junior bulldozed his way to 2,204 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns to help thrust LBJ to the 2021 Class 4A, Division 1 title game, where the Jaguars fell to Stephenville 38-21.

This season marks LBJ’s first in Class 5A, and it has handled the elevation well.

According to MaxPreps, the Jaguars crafted a perfect 6-0 record in district play and are 7-2 overall to end the regular season.

Up next is a playoff opener against the Elgin Wildcats.
