Austin Mayor Steve Adler said that he’s recovering from his bout with COVID-19, adding that he tested negative for the illness twice.
“Good news: I tested negative for COVID,” Adler tweeted. “Thankful for all the well wishes. Thankful for vaccines and boosters. Looking forward to being back with people per CDC and doctor’s guidance.”
Austin FOX affiliate KTBC reported that the mayor tested positive for the coronavirus on April 3.
According to the station, a statement from Adler at the time said the positive test came after he learned of an exposure.
Adler added that he had “very mild, if any, symptoms” while his spouse, Diane, tested negative.
According to KTBC, Adler worked and isolated at his residence during the last week.
His personal physician and Austin Public Health gave him the all-clear to return to city hall on Thursday (April 7), the station reported.
“I’ve now received [two] negative COVID test results, 12 hours apart, and have been cleared by my physician and Austin Public Health to return to in-person events,” the mayor tweeted. “Grateful for science and vaccines! I will continue to follow CDC guidelines and mask indoors and outdoors.”
Last month, Travis County and the City of Austin lifted all COVID-19 orders in response to the lowest infection and hospitalization levels ever experienced in the area during the pandemic, the Austin Journal reported.
The Travis County Commissioners Court approved the lifting of the county’s mask mandate for its buildings, the publication reported.
