New Austin Del Valle football coach Bobby Acosta is looking to make the resurrection of the Cardinals’ program a family affair.

“I am committed and motivated to make this one of the best programs in Texas and the country,” Acosta recently said in a statement. “I am excited to meet our new families, players, teachers, coaches and everyone who will help build this program into something special. We want to make Del Valle the place to watch one of the best games ever invented.”

After having led IMG Academy to a perfect 8-0 record and the No.1 national ranking from MaxPreps and USA Today, Acosta knows the look of a winner. The Florida school only added football in 2010, after having a developed a new system of high school athletics that includes bringing players from all over the country into its boarding school-style campus.

Acosta, who replaces Charles Burton, previously held the head coaching job at Widener University and has also been an assistant at Cornell, Syracuse, Delaware and Bucknell universities.

The Cardinals’ finished 3-6 last season under Burton, who departs after eight seasons and having accumulated a 29-51 overall record.

Burton’s son, Caleb, is widely considered one of the top receivers in the country for the 2022 class. The Ohio State recruit recently took to social media to announce he will not be spending his senior season at Del Valle.
