Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is facing heavy criticism for the new abortion law where he falsely asserted that the law is in no way going to affect victims of incest or rape. However, most of these victims aren’t aware that they are with a child until six weeks. Thus, this law will be forcing them to give birth.

Abbott said in a tweet, “No freedom is more precious than life itself. Starting today, every unborn child with a heartbeat will be protected from the ravages of abortion. Texas will always defend the right to life.”

When Abbott went to a different bill signing event, he was asked whether this new law would force the rape victims to carry their pregnancy to term even when they didn’t want to. To that, he replied that the law won’t do that, thus misleading everyone, and even went on to claim that the state will do their best to “eliminate all rapists” by “working tirelessly.”

“Obviously, it provides at least six weeks for a person to be able to get an abortion, and so, for one, it doesn’t provide that. That said, rape is a crime, and Texas will work tirelessly to make sure that we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas by aggressively going out and arresting them and prosecuting them and getting them off the streets,” Abbott said.

Ever since the law went into effect, so many patients have been denied an abortion, and several providers had to cancel the procedures.

“This extreme Texas law blatantly violates the constitutional right established under Roe v. Wade and upheld as precedent for nearly half a century,” President Joe Biden said.

Senate Bill 8, or the Texas Heartbeat Bill, relates “to abortion, including abortions after detection of an unborn child’s heartbeat; authorizing a private civil right of action.”

The law has also given private citizens permission to sue abortion providers or any person who has assisted a woman in getting an abortion.

There is also a monetary reward for any person who can successfully sue an abortion provider under this law, and the amount is $10,000.
