Governor Greg Abbott is currently visiting India, a Southwest Asian nation with a population of over 1 billion. The Office of the Texas Governor has characterized this visit as an economic development mission. The delegation from the Lone Star state will be in India for at least a week, meeting with company executives, business leaders, and government officials.

According to the official release, First Lady Cecilia Abbott, Secretary of State Jane Nelson, and several other dignitaries have accompanied the governor on this trip. This marks his second visit to India since he assumed office in 2015.

The governor’s office stated that India ranks ninth among all nations in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Texas.

Over the past decade, companies based in India have invested $1.4 billion through nearly 60 projects across Texas, creating more than 10,300 jobs, according to the release.

Abbott’s office also highlighted that India is Texas’ 11th-largest total trade partner.

The Houston Chronicle reported that Abbott’s most recent international trip was to Israel where he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog amidst escalating tensions with Hamas militants from Gaza.
