AUSTIN — Austin FC is looking at ways to boost ticket availability for people who may not be able to afford a way into a soccer match.

The Major League Soccer team plays its home games at the 20,500-capacity Q2 Stadium at 10414 McKalla Place in the northern portion of the city.

The stadium was a $260 million, privately financed development and can already operate at full capacity.

The club has had tremendous support throughout Central Texas. However, some ticket prices are beyond what people can afford.

Kaitlin Swarts, vice president of community impact with Austin FC, said that they aspire to be a good member of the community by drawing fans from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

“We want to build a club for all of Austin,” Swarts said. “Austin FC provides both affordable and community tickets to the Central Texas community.”

According to KXAN, the team gives out about 300 tickets per game for free or at a discounted rate.

They also offer $20 tickets to people who belong to organizations that help serve the Austin community, according to the local television station.

Austin FC was founded in 2018 and has an ownership group that includes Matthew McConaughey, with 2021 being the team’s inaugural season.
